Looking up at the night sky is truly a wonder to observe. The vastness and beauty brings a sense of calm to all, but how do we know what we are observing! All ancient cultures had a profound understanding of the moving patterns of the stars, the Planets and our Moon and Sun, directly connecting these cyclical movements to understanding the forces of nature. By looking up at the night sky we can connect to nature and keep this ancient knowledge alive!
So what can we hope to see in the night sky of April. The Lyrid´s Meteor Shower starts around the 16th and ends the 25th. The Moon will be bright for the peak night on the 22nd/23rd so best viewing will be around the 17th/18th. We see the New Moon on the 12th and the Full Moon on the 27th, our first SuperMoon of the Year!
Mercury and Venus are visible in the evening sky and Jupiter and Saturn in the morning sky, with Mars getting low on the western coast during the night. It is not as difficult as you think to find the Planets, amongst all the twinkling stars. Looking like "bright stars", the Planets are the most obvious point of light visible to the naked eye. They are found along the Ecliptic Path, the imaginary line that the Sun appears to follow.

Mirar al cielo nocturno es una verdadera maravilla. La inmensidad y la belleza aportan una sensación de calma a todos, pero ¡cómo sabemos lo que estamos observando! Todas las culturas antiguas tenían una profunda comprensión de los patrones de movimiento de las estrellas, los planetas y nuestra Luna y Sol, conectando directamente estos movimientos cíclicos con la comprensión de las fuerzas de la naturaleza. Mirando al cielo nocturno podemos conectar con la naturaleza y mantener vivo este antiguo conocimiento.
¿Qué podemos esperar ver en el cielo nocturno de abril? La lluvia de meteoros de las Líridas comienza alrededor del día 16 y termina el 25. La Luna será brillante durante la noche máxima del 22 al 23, por lo que la mejor visión será alrededor del 17/18. Veremos la Luna Nueva el día 12 y la Luna Llena el 27, nuestra primera Superluna del año.
Mercurio y Venus son visibles en el cielo nocturno y Júpiter y Saturno en el cielo matutino, con Marte bajando en la costa occidental durante la noche. No es tan difícil como crees encontrar los Planetas, entre todas las estrellas parpadeantes. Con un aspecto de "estrellas brillantes", los Planetas son el punto de luz más evidente visible a simple vista. Se encuentran a lo largo de la Eclíptica, la línea imaginaria que parece seguir el Sol.
