The month of December gives us back the Winter, the great epoch of the hunter Orion and his adventures, which comes in officially on Sunday 22nd. In these dates, the ancient inhabitants of Fuerteventura, the Majos, met on the top of Tindaya's,mountain, one of their most sacred places, in order to witness the sunset, forwarding the return of the rains and of the days with more light hours.

From the beginning of this month, the night sky is still dominated by the Great Square of Pegasus, marking the Autumn's season and reminding us of the story of the princess Andromeda and her savior, the hero Perseus. In the same area, the mythical Seven Sisters, the Pleiades, acquire more and more protagonism: through a small telescope, they reveal us their true nature of a richest open cluster, containing more than 150 stars. But we should not forget that December is taking us the best shooting shower of the year, the Geminids, whose maximum falls in the nights of the 13th and 14th; unfortunately these are quite the same dates of the Full Moon of the 12th, what limits the window when we can enjoy them in the best conditions.

On the other hand, the Moon can be observed in her best moments in the first decade of the month, showing us her secrets by means of a telescope: enormous lava seas, highest ranges of mountains, smaller and bigger craters, leaving all people looking at them truly astonished.

El mes de diciembre nos trae de vuelta el invierno, la gran temporada del cazador Orión y sus aventuras, que entra oficialmente el domingo 22. En estas fechas, los antiguos pobladores de Fuerteventura, los Majos, se reunían en la cumbre de la montaña de Tindaya, uno de sus lugares más sagrados, para asistir a la puesta del Sol en este día, que indicaba la vuelta de las lluvias y de la época con más horas de luz. Desde el principio del mes, el cielo nocturno sigue dominado por el gran Cuadrado de Pégaso, que marca la estación del otoño y nos recuerda la historia de la princesa Andrómeda y su salvador, el héroe Perseo. En la misma zona, cada vez más protagonismo adquieren las míticas Siete Hermanas, las Pléiades, que a través de un pequeño telescopio o unos prismáticos nos revelan su naturaleza de riquísimo cúmulo abierto, formado por unos 150 astros. Pero no hay que olvidarse que diciembre es el mes de la mejor lluvia de estrellas del año, las Gemínidas, cuyo máximo cae en las noches del 13 y 14, desafortunadamente coincidiendo con la Luna llena del día 12, que va a limitar el horario útil para apreciarlas en las mejores condiciones.

En cambio, la Luna podrá observarse en su mejor momento en la primera decena del mes, enseñándonos sus secretos por medio del telescopio: enormes mares de lava, cadenas de montañas altísimas, cráteres pequeños y grandes que dejan asombrados a todos los que los admiran.
